I presented my ongoing research, Slanted Architectures: Architectural Short Stories as Criticism, at CICA - the international Conference on Architectural Criticism: Resistance and Commitment. The presentation explored how writing and publicly performing architectural short stories can expand the communicative means of architectural criticism, turning it into a collective practice shaped by storytelling, situated encounters, and audience engagement. The discussion opened up questions about how architectural criticism might reach beyond conventional academic and professional formats to create new ways of interpreting and engaging with architecture.

Together with Daniel Duarte Pereira, Ana Resende, the book’s graphic designer, and Bruno Alves de Almeida, curator and contributor, I presented Counter-Collections: Dialogues between Urban Space and Archives at Limestone Books in Maastricht. The conversation explored how the histories of medium-sized cities such as Braga and Maastricht are constructed, remembered, and contested through collections and archives. Bringing these two urban contexts into dialogue, we reflected on collecting as a situated cultural practice capable of challenging dominant narratives and bringing overlooked histories, voices, and forms of knowledge into the public life of the city.

Together with Daniel Duarte Pereira, we presented the lecture "The Shape of Friction: Curating Neighbourhoods through Festival-Making" at Cornell University College of Architecture, Art, and Planning, as part of CCCONFETTI [Celebration Chart], a new seminar led by Professor Rosita Palladino. We spoke about the architecture and art festival Forma da Vizinhança (Shape of Neighbourhood), we curated for Braga 25, while reflecting on the frictions, negotiations, and forms of collective life through which neighbourhoods are made and remade—and on how the social and spatial interventions extend beyond the temporality of the festival itself.

Fernando P. Ferreira is an architect, independent researcher, and writer whose practice explores how architecture can engage with the stories, materials, and collective experiences through which places are produced, remembered, and transformed. Working across architectural research, fiction, performance, and curatorial practice, he investigates the politics of labour, heritage, memory, ecology, and representation in frictional contexts. He holds a PhD in Architectural Design from The Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL, where he brought architecture, storytelling, and textile-making into dialogue to investigate the ongoing dismantling of Coelima, a century-old textile factory in northern Portugal. Working at the intersection of industrial heritage, labour, and collective memory, his research asks what becomes of a place when its structures of production disappear—and how the stories of those who sustained it might shape the futures that follow. His doctoral research continues to inform his wider interdisciplinary practice, which brings together fieldwork, oral history, architectural writing, and performative experimentation to produce architectural knowledge and expand the ways built environments are approached, narrated, and practised.
He is also the co-founder and co-director of Space Transcribers, a Portuguese research-based architectural practice working across architecture, curatorial practice, and cultural production. Through the practice, he develops collaborative projects with communities, artists, researchers, academia, and cultural institutions, exploring how architectural interventions and collective processes can engage with contested territories and overlooked histories. As part of Space Transcribers, he contributed to Fertile Futures, the Portuguese representation at the 18th International Architecture Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia (2023), curated by Andreia Garcia, Ana Neiva, and Diogo Aguiar. In 2025, he served as curator and artistic director of the public projects Shopyard, Counter-Kiosk, and the architecture and art festival Forma da Vizinhança for Braga 25 Portuguese Capital of Culture.
His practice has been presented through exhibitions, lectures, publications, and artistic residencies at institutions including the Venice Architecture Biennale, the Lisbon Architecture Triennale, Culturgest, gnration, Magic Carpets, The Bartlett School of Architecture, and the Vilnius Academy of Arts. His editorial work includes the co-edited books Transcribe: Participatory Actions in Braga's Social Housing Estates (Braga Municipality, 2017), Cartographies: Between Place, Time and Scale (Lab2PT, 2020), Forma da Vizinhança (Circo de Ideias, 2025), and Counter-Collections: Dialogues Between Urban Space and Archives (Onomatopee, 2026). He is currently developing his first authored book, based on his doctoral research.
Alongside his research and curatorial practice, Fernando teaches architecture and urbanism across undergraduate, master's, and doctoral programmes. He currently leads Narrating Tools in the MA in Spatial Design at the Vilnius Academy of Arts and teaches at the School of Architecture, Art and Design of the University of Minho and FAUP — Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto. His teaching and supervision explore urban research, mapping methodologies, architectural storytelling, and critical spatial practices.
